FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Collected below is some practical information about our flight experiences. For anything else don't hesitate to contact us by phone on 01243 539005 or email using our Contact Us page.

ARE THERE ANY HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS?
There are no absolute restrictions but we ask that passengers are aware that they may find it a little cramped if they book:
A Middle Seat and are over 5ft10in / 178cm tall
A ‘Co-Pilot’ / Window Seats and are over 6ft4in / 193cm tall

ARE THERE ANY WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS?
There are no absolute limits, but we respectfully ask passengers weighing in excess of 17.5 stone / 110kg to contact us before booking. We will try to accommodate you, however you may be required to purchase additional seating space.

ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS?
The minimum passenger age is 3 years. Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. There is no upper age limit, but we ask politely that you make your own judgement regarding whether you are fit and healthy enough to undertake a flight in a helicopter.

CAN PASSENGERS WITH DISABILITIES FLY?
We will make every effort to accommodate disabled passengers but ask you to please contact us to discuss your needs prior to booking.

HOW LONG SHOULD I ALLOW FOR THE EXPERIENCE?
We recommend allotting three hours for your flight experience. We ask that passengers arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled departure, ready for a briefing 15 minutes before take-off, for examples

For tickets marked 10.00 - please arrive at Hangar 8 at 09.30 - you should be finished by 11:00
For tickets marked 12.30 - please arrive at Hangar 8 at 12.00 - you should be finished by 13:30

CAN I BRING FRIENDS & FAMILY?
By all means bring friends and family along to share in the experience. There is an outdoor grass viewing area next to Hangar 8 with picnic tables and a replica Spitfire, and Goodwood's Old Control Tower Cafe is just  a short walk away on the opposite side of the start-finish straight of Goodwood Motor Circuit. They have an excellent lunch menu and viewing area (including roof terrace). Only flying passengers will be granted access to our facilities in Hangar 8. Unfortunately we do not have space to accommodate you all indoors on the day and must keep strict control of numbers so that safety briefings can be delivered to those flying in a professional manner. We also ask that you consider only coming in a single vehicle as although parking here is free, it is not unlimited.

WHERE CAN WE EAT LUNCH?
Goodwood's Old Control Tower Cafe is just a short walk from our Hangar and would be our top recommendation. There are also a range of excellent pubs in the local area including The Anglesey Arms in Halnaker and The Fox Goes Free in Charlton.

WHO WILL BE FLYING THE HELICOPTERS?
The helicopters are operated by our partner Elite Helicopters, who have over 18 years of experience in helicopter operations. They use their own experienced pilots and aircraft and operate under their own Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC). Elite’s pilots know the local area extremely well, and have prior experience flying alongside warbirds. Our Chief Pilots, with decades of experience between them, have worked closely together to coordinate the flights and routes to maximise safety, fun and excitement for all.

AM I INSURED?
Yes. Elite Helicopters are a licensed Commercial Air Transport Operator and are required by law to provide full third party liability insurance.

WHO WILL BE FLYING THE SPITFIRE?
We have a roster of some of the most experienced pilots in the world flying our warbirds, from military test pilots to commercial airline Captains. Needless to say the owners and operators of these aircraft do not like to take risks with their valuable assets so you can rest assured that it is only the most capable warbird pilots in the world at the controls, giving you an incredible airborne spectacle and true ‘Battle of Britain experience’.

WHAT IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER?
We fly in fair weather. The point is for you to be able to see these magnificent aircraft and the landscape in which they defended our nation during the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire and Hurricane especially is only flown in fair weather conditions as they are old, valuable aircraft with great historical significance. As such weather can stop or delay our flights. Fog, high winds, heavy rain or thunderstorms are conditions that make flying unfavourable. Our Chief Pilots review weather conditions 24-36 hrs in advance, and our pilots continually on the day.

Should we postpone flying we ask you to please be patient, it is for your safety. Should flights have to be cancelled we will do our utmost to warn you in advance (and before you leave home, as far as is possible), and to reschedule for another day. Please keep a close eye on your mobile phone / answerphone / email in the day or two leading up to your flight to avoid disappointment.

FOR HOW LONG ARE GIFT CERTIFICATES VALID?
Gift Certificates are valid for 12 months from date of issue.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?
It is preferable not to bring animals to the aerodrome, it can be a noisy and distressing environment, and leaving them locked in your car is certainly best avoided. If you must bring your dog for any reason then contact us first, noting that it will not be allowed inside airside under any circumstance (per aerodrome regulations), and must be kept on a lead and supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
